The 22nd Hong Kong Butterfly Photo Competition 2026 is organized by the Environmental Association's Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve. The theme is "Appreciate Ecology, Protect Habitats." The goal is to help the public learn about butterflies. Participants will use photos to show the natural beauty of butterflies at any stage of life in their habitats. This helps people appreciate nature and raises awareness about protecting our environment.

All funds raised from the competition will go toward ecological conservation at the Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve. This contributes to Hong Kong's environment and gives the event a special meaning.

A. Eligibility

  • Open to people of all ages

B. Prizes

There are three winners—Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up. The prize details are listed below:​​​

  • Champion: Lowepro Trekker LT HP 100 Camera Bag (valued at HK$650) + Supermarket Cash Voucher (HK$1,000)​

  • ​First Runner-up: Manfrotto TwistGrip Universal Smartphone Clamp (valued at HK$490) + Supermarket Cash Voucher (HK$800)

  • Second Runner-up: Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod, Black (valued at HK$250) + Supermarket Cash Voucher (HK$500)

C. How to participate

  • Fill out and submit the online form.

  • Email up to 2 competition photos to info@fungyuen.org.

  • Name your photo files using your "Photo Entry Number."

  • Use the email subject: "The 22nd Hong Kong Butterfly Photo Competition 2026" and add your Photo Entry Number.

Photo Entry Number Format:

  • Use the first 4 characters of your Hong Kong ID card (letter and numbers) plus your English last name.

  • Example: If your ID is D123456(7) and your name is Chan Tai Man, your entry number will be: D123Chan_1 (or 2).

 

D. Competition Rules:

  • Participants must hold a Hong Kong ID card.

  • Registration opens on July 1, 2026 (Wednesday).

  • Registration closes on November 30, 2026 (Monday) at 23:59. Late entries will not be accepted.

  • Photos can show any life stage of a butterfly (except for specimens).

  • Each person can submit a maximum of 2 photos. Violators will be disqualified.

  • Photos must be taken by the participant inside Hong Kong within the year 2026. You must provide the date, time, and location of the photo.

  • Photos sent by email must be in JPEG format. Files must be smaller than 10MB. (You do not need to send RAW files yet).

  • Photos that have won prizes in other public competitions will not be accepted.

  • Judges will score based on: Content (40%), Composition (30%), and Skill (30%).

  • For shortlisted works, the Association may ask you to send the RAW file or the original photo file.

  • The Association supports natural eco-photography. If anyone uses harmful methods (like using bait, catching, or raising butterflies), they will be disqualified.

  • The Environmental Association keeps the final decision-making power for any disputes.

  • Submitted photos may be used for future event promotional purposes.
