Butterfly Garden Certification Program (BGCP)

Butterfly garden provides food and shelter for butterflies at all stages of their life. Providing edible plants for butterfly larva, plants for butterfly nectar and proper sunlight are the basic elements of a butterfly garden. And long-term effective management and maintenance are important follow-up tasks for a butterfly garden. If you are interested in making a commitment to promote habitats for butterflies and other pollinators, we are happy to provide professional advice on building and certifying your butterfly gardens.

   

Aim

The Butterfly Garden Certification Program aims to provide certification services for butterfly gardens organized by schools, communities and institutions, so as to ensure that those organizations can establish and maintain effective natural habitats for butterflies to inhabit and reproduce; and through the certification system, encourage the management and maintenance can keep pace with the times, so as to achieve the goal of continuous development.

Continuation of Certification

  • Applicants complete the application form and submit it together with the renewal fee ($3,000). The renewal fee includes the application fee, certificate and certification sign, and the renewal process is the same as the first application procedure 4-8.

Remarks 

  • BGCP reserved rights to adjust and change the procedure and fees

  • Butterfly gardens certified by BGCP will become members of

       "International Butterfly Network" for free

  • Schools and non-profit organizations can enjoy preferential certification fees,

Butterfly Garden Certification Program (BGCP) Evaluation Principle

The Butterfly Garden Certification Scheme (BGCS) aims to facilitate a structured and sustainable system of butterfly and nature conservation.

 

A. Vision and Commitment

  1. Establish a sustainable management conservation structure.

  2. Promote and to mobilize a vision of nature conservation in a genuine and physical practice.

  3. Commit like-minded nature lovers, and educate the public in joining the course of creating a eco-friendly community, and a better world.

 

B. Butterfly Habitat and Ecology

  1. Select appropriate site, Sunny and wind-sheltered, with suitable Soil and water source.

  2. local native plants and nectar plants, in consideration of year round flowering arrangements. 

  3. Do not use pesticides, Chemical fertilizers and insecticide.

  4. Allow ecological interaction and biodiversity.

  5. Construction and decoration of the gardens should maximize the use of recycled and non-toxic materials. 

  6. Sites remote from public access, such as rooftops, may still be suitable for encouraging biodiversity.

 

C. Continuous maintenance of butterfly garden

  1. Promotion, education, workshops or activities to mobilise local communities to involve in garden maintenance.

  2. Support from the land owner, management unit or include in company governance.

  3. Recommend regular butterfly survey to observe the outcome and share with community.
